Tyler Amateur Radio Club

The Groundwire Newsletter

A publication of The Tyler Amateur Radio Club, by and for it's members, interested parties and served organizations and agencies.

I have resided in and around Tyler all of my life. My wife LaJuana and I now live in the very southeastern corner of Smith county, about 6 miles from Troup.

We call our place the "Loose Connection Ranch".

My neighbor back in the 60's was a ham and used to let me set in at he and his Dad's shack and listen to QSO's. I was fascinated. Regrettably I never obtained my license though.

That seed began to sprout last year after 40 years and I decided to get my Tech license. I Googled ham radio and stumbled upon the TARC website. After buying and reading the book "Ham Radio for Dummies" I decided to make contact with someone listed on the website. Bob Sanford was the guy I called. Bob walked me through the process and I took my Tech exam in Lufkin in October of 07. Upgraded to general in Tyler Jan 08. Every minute I have spent at the TARC functions has been a blast.

I am thankful to be associated with such a great group of folks at TARC. I am honored to be allowed to serve as a board member and the Goundwire editor.
