Tyler Amateur Radio Club

The Groundwire Newsletter

A publication of The Tyler Amateur Radio Club, by and for it's members, interested parties and served organizations and agencies.

We hold that it’s each member’s duty to support and promote their organization any way they can, over and above paying dues and attending meetings. Accordingly, we’re delighted to have the opportunity to serve as Co-editors of The Groundwire.

I (Bob) was first licensed as a Novice (WD5FYB) in 1972 and went on to earn my Extra class license (AG5X) in 1978. Elaine just passed her Technician test in August (she’s now KF5CNN) and plans to take the upgrade test to General in January. Rag chewing with DX stations is my favorite ham activity. Elaine’s still getting her feet wet with two meter activity, but she’s quite the talker so her call’s suffix fits her to a “T” as more and more fellow amateurs are discovering.

Our station is a simple one – a 20+ year old HF rig, an even older two meter base station and a dual band VHF hand-held. Our antenna farm is equally simple comprising a ground-mounted vertical and a G5RV about 30’ up in the pine trees. We’re both looking forward to the next sun spot cycle peak. If you hear us on the bands, by all means give us a call. 73 to all, Bob & Elaine
